Hello all,

I'm in the final stages of restoring a woody All of the work was planned out according to a budget that my wife and I agreed on before I started the project. Inclusion in the budget was on a immediate needs/requirements bases weighed against researched estimated costs, affect on sailing and total days of use in the first season. Usage was to also be weighed against other interests: kayaking, hiking, weekends at the cabin, weekends with the kids (and now grandchild), etc. Im now at the point in the restoration where I have to complete the rigging, which, due to its status in the budget is where I will be spending the most money. That leaves me with how to afford sail restoration. The budget, based on a thorough survey of the sails condition, designates that, at a minimum, the existing sails are to be used for the first year and that I perform all of the repairs myself.  The sails have some minor small tears most are under 3 inches.

So, after that long introduction comes my question: How do I figure out what cloth to buy to facilitate the required repairs?

Thank you

I did not find the right solution from the internet

A lot will depend upon the sails you need to repair and where the damage is. My suggestion would be to call in and discuss the various repairs with Jeff Frank here at Sailrite. He is our sailmaker/designer and would be most helpful to you. Otherwise I suggest purchasing a book that we publish on this very subject:

Best Regards,
