Neighbor moved, left me a liftetime supply of this stuff: https://www.staples.com/Fellowes-Shredder-Oil-12oz/product_496153?cid=PS:GooglePLAs:496153&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=496153&KPID=496153&cvosrc=pla.dotcom-sales-google.Shredders%2C%20Projectors%20%26%20Office%20Machines&cvo_crid=225644957271&cvo_campaign=951156402&gclid=CjwKCAjw0JfdBRACEiwAiDTALkmlcCVXnXHEYvHVz9VvGbGXhwfYYcrhnDd-mbdGGAjrJJ3Fnll0wxoChPEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&akamai-feo=off

It *looks* like sewing machine oil, but is not: vegetable-based instead of mineral-based.

But it's very light/easy-flowing.

Any thoughts on whether it would work as a replacement for sewing machine oil?

I worry it might discolor the machine parts and stain fabric. Maybe someone else with a better background in lubricants can reply.

I did some more looking.

Turns out there is a residue problem with veggie-based oils

Long ago I bought  5 gal. of Chevron Machine Tool Oil.I can use it on any machine in my shop. The best oil buy I ever made.It is water clear.Thin and penetrates and does not evaporate and gum up.Good stuff.
