I'm a newbee to sewing so bear with me. I am building a 19' Downeast Boat and I need to make seat cushions, among other things. I would like to use Fabric for the deck seats and not Vinyl. So my question is can I use the softer Sunbrella Fabric, or will they not hold up as well as Vinyl. Are their other alternatives, and what will be the longevity as oposed to Vinyl...

Hi Joe,
Yes you can use Sunbrella furniture fabric but it will not hold water back from entering the foam nearly as well as a vinyl or the Marine and Awning grade of Sunbrella. If the cushions will be put away in bad weather then the furniture grade Sunbrella will hold up well. If not, I recommend the vinyl or the Marine/Awning grade Sunbrella. Keep in mind that the Marine and Awning grade does get quite soft with use.

Hope this helps.
Thanks, Matt
