My sail cloth is torn around the grommet for the hank. How do you suggest that I repair this? How do I get the hank off to sew the cloth?

Is the hank a bronze type that is bent in place? If so the hank must be cut off and then replaced (note: sometimes it is possible to bend them open and then close them again but often they break). Once the hank is off you will need to use tin snips to remove the gromment. Snip it from the center in several spots about half way in. Use a screwdriver to lift the ragged edges and work at it until the two parts of the grommet are separated. next patch the area with Dacron sailcloth and then install a new grommet. That should be it :)
Thanks, Matt

The hank is a bronze one. Do I need bolt cutters to cut it off? Do you carry the bronze piston hanks (length is 2.5")? Also, how do I measure for the correct sized grommet replacement? The grommet is pressed through a webbing outside of the sailcloth. Is this a special kind of webbing? I'll try to attach a couple of photos.

Try the bolt cutters but a hack saw always works. The replacement you need is #24307 Swedish Snap. Get a #2 brass spur grommet. You will need an installation tool to set it. Just a 1" Polyester webbing will do. Sailrite sells everything you need :)
