Hi,
First I want to thank Sailrite for all the intresting video, blog and other info about sewing and canvas work. That make it easier for us new users to learn and understand the process. Just got a new Typical GC0303 sewing machine, and startet with repair my canvas on my boat. Ealier I try v-69 thread (I order from Sailrite) in my Janome easy jeans, but after alot of problem I desided to order sewing machine that was ment for canvas work. Here in Norway I think most of the canvas production use polyester /cotton thread. They use this thread because they are afraid of leaking seems do to the raining weather condition we have here in Norway. The problem is that this seem will not last many years before the treads get weak. Maybe up too 5-7year. Now, what thread and size should I use to repair my canvas? I guessing that repair an old canvas will a polyester thread hold long enough. Is the V-92 thread thick enough, or should I go fo the v-138? I think my machine can easy handle v-138. Do the polyester antiwick work as good as a polyester/cotton thread to handle rain? Also, if I will try tenara thread, should I go for standard or the heavy size. I suggest V-92 Anti-wick thread in Polyester.
Tenara standard weight is fine for canvaswork. |
