Hey, I could use some suggestions regarding sewing techniques when sewing lighter and smaller width binders.
When sewing these binders they tend to slip off towards the machine side of the workpiece and or bunch up so that the stitch does not stay on the binder. I keep pretty good tension on the tail edge of the binder as it goes into the binder attachment but it is a struggle to get a good even lay on the stitch. They also tend to not lay evenly in half as they leave the binder and pass through the feed dogs, putting more of the binder fold on the bottom of the workpiece. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Sailrite binders are designed for Sunbrella Binding and Vinyl Bindings. These are not super thick but they are certainly thicker than grossgrain tapes/binders. Unfortunately the lighter and softer the binding gets the harder it is for the binder to control the placement of the material on the raw edge of the edge being bound. With some practice you can get it to work well but a lot of this will have to do with the management of the binding as it feeds into the binder mouth.
For very critical applications you my want to use basting tape to position and hold the binding on prior to sewing. Hope this helps. Best Regards, Matt Grant Sailrite |
