Hi,
I have an ancient storm jib (never been used) that I am going to spruce up a bit to have on hand as a very tiny, hankie hurricane jib (in addition to the suit of storm sails I already carry). If you got it, might as well use it, right? The hanks are bronze press-on, maybe size #1, and with a little cleaning, they work just fine. They are not worn at all. I personally prefer sewn-on hanks for ease of repair, but for as rarely (if ever!) I would be using this sail, is it work the effort and time to switch them out? The rings on the luff are plastic pressed-in rings with bronze or brass liners. There is some corrosion, but we've cleaned them up and have noted no damage to the cloth. Is there any sense in reinforcing them with some stitches: hand-sewn ring style, say from 6 oclock to 12? Or should we carefully cut them out and sew in some bigger rings? Thanks for the help,

Hi Sarah,
The jib snaps should be good. I would not go to the work of repairing them. The corner rings sound like 30 ton inox rings and. The should be quite strong. Thanks, Matt Sailrite |
