Hello folks,

I purchased some dacron sail cloth from Sailrite a while back,  I was wondering if it is possible to shrink it using heat, clothes iron for example.

I want to use the dacron for a canoe project (for the sides). Realize that there are other fabrics out there for this but am curious at to whats possible with what I have on hand

thanks,

Wilson

Dacron Sailcloth is already preshrunk and then finished with a melamine resin. It will not shrink any more (at least noticeably). What you want is what they call Griege goods Dacron. This is the woven product before finishing. It can be shrunk and then painted for a canoe.

Thanks,  I'll look around for some of it.

Wish I knew where to tell you to go. You might try the DIY ultralight vendors to see what they use for wing membranes.
