Clear sailmaking materials?

While searching in a Hobie cat site I stumbled across an artile of a guy that made his own sails etc.
What I did notice in the pics is that the sails were of some clear sail material that has sort of a clear thread pattern built into it...On one of the pics I even saw the roll of material laying on the floor. Looked light grey rolled up.
Panel sections and clew/tack/head looked like any regular sail in the stitching and joining etc. 
 
Any idea of what material it could be?
Or can u suggest any clear salmaking material that can be sewn like Dacron/polyester?

This is likely just a Polyester Laminate. There are several laminates in the market that are simply two layers of film sandwiched over an open scrim mesh of polyester. These materials look like what you have described.
