I am going to repair a hobie 16 main luff tape. I have studied Grant's mainsail book and sail maker's  apprentice. I am still a little confused on how to go about it.  Would I stretch out the luff from head to tack till whats left of the existing tape's wrinkles are gone,(assuming that the existing boltrope is fastened at tack and head) put new tape over the existing tape, fasten to tack and stretch tape to head and fasten. Staple tape from center of luff to tack and from center again to head. Release tension and sew along the boltrope with straight stitch and zipper presser foot. Sew zigzag stitch for the rest of the seams, while removing staples as I go.
Thanks
john

Hi John,

Yes your process makes sense if the majority of the luff edge is going to be replaced. If the section is shorter you can simply do the work without stretching the edge.

Thanks, Matt
