Hi,

There are three kinds of sailcloth: low aspect ,high aspect  and balanced aspect . I do not know what do they mean?

what is the different of above mentioned 3 kinds of sailcloth for jib and mainsail? (Fyi, our jib and mainsail use for the sailboat, LOA  less than 20'  )

thank you

When we talk about sails we often look at the aspect ratio (Luff / foot) to determine what fabric is appropriate. A higher aspect ratio (2.5+) generally requires a material with a stronger fill as opposed to warp. This would mean using a high aspect material is desirable. For a short and fat genoa we might want to use a low aspect Dacron. Balanced is often another term for a general purpose Dacron.

More specifically the difference in the fabric has to do with the denier and tenacity of the yarns which are woven in each direction (warp and fill).

Thanks, Matt
