Hi, I just took the sails of my hobie 16 to the sailloft for repairs and to replace tacks and clews, new plates and all.
The guy told me that the mainsail tack wasnt a grommet but insead a hydraulic pressed eyelet which he didnt have. He will be installing a s/s spur grommet instead after reconstructing the corner.
Where can these hydraulic eyelets be bought?
Any ideas on making a hydralic press with a couple of dies and a bottle jack (20 ton or similar)?
thanks!

Hi, 30 ton pressed rings are available from a variety of sources. It would be very cost prohibitive to make your own dies for these rings. The dies are very expensive because they are produced in small quantities. I would expect the dies to be just under $200 for each size. If you can get your hands on a die set it can be used with a 20 ton press. I have personally done this with an automotive type "H" press. These a fairly common. Thanks, Matt with Sailrite

I don't see them on their home page but ask this question of Harken. There URL is www.harken.com. At one time they offered the Rutgerson Rings. Thanks, Matt
