My boat is rigged cutter with check-stays..
Wondered if an asymmetrical spinnaker can be designed to run off the staysail?
The cutter rig gives an excelant amount of options for adding or subtracting size of sail area and was thinking that adding a kite off the staysill would further the options, as an addition in light air or using it as a reduced spinnaker when winds build.

Extra sail area is not very helpful unless it can be displayed fully to the force of the wind. Putting a sail between other sails is seldom very helpful unless their leeches can be staggered (as is probably the case with your standard cutter sails). Since the "staysail spinnaker" leech would certainly overlap the leech of the staysail and maybe even the main, it would probably not add any performance even if you could get it to fly.

Mis understanding Jim,  I ment to say that I wanted to fly the smaller spinnaker off the staysail "stay" and without the staysail up..  I understand there would be somewhat of a shadow effect of the main and the sail, but my rig is a high aspect rig and the main is fairly short and the distance of the area from the mast to the stay is quite large..
The boat is a Beneteau FIRST 42 tall rig...  Now the next question is,
can you cut me a spinnaker to fit the demensions to fit the stay.???

This will not work. You need to fly the spinnaker in front of the forestay. Using the inner stay would not allow the sail to fly properly. I suppose you could do more of a drifter/asymmetrical sail but it would still not be the best option.
Thanks, Matt
