Hi yall,

I have trouble adjusting the thread tension on my Brother 652 when sewing Dacron sails. One thing is the tension is pretty close to max on upper and lower thread. And still the zig zags are not quite as tight as they should.

Here is a sample that I hope shows the problem:

This the top view. It looks like the upper thread tension is set too high, right?

But when you turn around the piece, you'll see the upper thread is pulled down on those zig zags that have a normal step length.

Maybe the samples isn't good because the grosgrain tape crumples a little under the thread tension. But I'm seeing the same, just not as pronounced, on sails.

Any ideas? Thanks a lot guys!

Holger

Maybe I should add: this is a V-92 bonded Polyester thread on a #20 needle. The machine just came from the mechanic and should be all tuned.

Thanks,

Holger

You will not get good results in this thin of a assembly with this thick of a thread given the wide width of the zigzag. I would decrease zigzag width to resolve.
Thanks, Matt

Thanks much for your response, Matt! Yes, I agree with what you said. I just used this part for the photo to get better color contrast.

I am now getting better results after replacing the upper thread tension spring with a stronger one. Anyway, now I can increase the upper thread tension and the seams aren't so sloppy anymore.

Thanks again, you guys are so helpful!
