Can these industrials be treadled? Is anyone doing so? I am just worried about the power of the machine to drive the needle through the layers of fabrics without an electric motor attached.
I have a standard treadle. I can put whatever table top on that treadle to hold the industrial head. I am much better at treadling than cranking and I am looking for a non-electric way to run these machines in the field. A treadle base would be slightly less bulky than a K-leg table. The traditional treadle uses a leather belt with not a lot of tension, but it always runs better with the bobbin winder engaged. My Singer 111 uses a rubber v-belt, currently. I am assuming with the stitch regulator being in the middle of the fly-wheel on the Singer 111, there is no way to modify it for hand crank anyway. |
