Needing some advice on which fabric to use for a full winter cover for a 43' sailboat moored in Seattle.  We are considering Sunbrella Plus or SurLast (8 oz) and would appreciate any comments.  Thanks!

I would definitely go with the Surlast.  Sunbrella, and Sunbrella Plus are not as abrasion resistant as the Surlast and they are a lot heavier, making the cover harder to store.

Another alternative worth looking at is Odyssey III.  Your color selection is limited to white and the equivalent of Pacific Blue, but the stuff wears like iron.  It is 64" wide and costs only $13.95 per yard.

I hope that this helps.

Best regards,
Dan Smith

Thanks for the information, Dan.  What's your opinion on using Surlast for a dodger and bimini?

I would stick with Sunbrella for those applications.  It is specifically designed for creating structured shelters on boats.  Being a bit heavier, it is far less likely to buzz when wind blows across it.  Also, I've found that it wears better than Surlast in these structural uses.
