I'm replacing a retractable awning and just need to clarify the reason for the 2" wide side hems. My old awning has a very small (1/4") hem. Since nothing is threaded through theses gems, is there a purpose for them being 2"?

Tks...

Strength is the only reason to go this wide. You could just as easily do a 1/2" hem. I think 1/4" is too small for best longevity.
